Salesforce CPQ (configure, price and quote) helps business to configure products, price orders quickly, and generate accurate quotes. Often, we are asked by customers if they need to consider having CPQ, especially compare with standard quote feature from Salesforce sales cloud which a lot of customers are familiar with.
Standard quote feature works with business has straightforward product offering plus pricing, and do not mind ‘plain sheet’ looking of the quote PDF. However, if you have any of following business requirement, then it is time to start considering Salesforce CPQ:

How do you know it is time to look at Salesforce CPQ ?
1.You have product/services bundles:
You have a pre-built package include many different products or services. A classic example is when you sell a computer, it has CPU, memory, hard disk and so on.
2.You have product rules:
For example, product A can only be sold with product B; or for a customer in U.S, only U.S keyboard can be sold (not U.K keyboard).
3.You have pricing rules:
You have a complex discount model, things like ‘buy three get one free’, or ‘buy before the end of the month, get 10% off’, or discount based on partner/reseller tiers.
4.You have complex quote document:
For example, you want to automatically update quote template/wording based on products included or promotions.
5.You have subscriptions based selling model:
Your offerings might include recurring billings, such as monthly service or maintenance fees, rental or leasing fees, or other offers that generate invoices and fulfillments. Salesforce itself is an excellent example of subscriptions based selling.
